15 weeks

I'm feeling a little more sickly this week :( for some i thought you were supposed to start feeling better after the 3rd month??? But i went up to the ranch and played in the fresh air with my horse yesterday and that made me feel better.

My nephew Jack was asking me questions about the baby like "how'd it get in there" hmmm thats a loaded question for a 4 year old.....the first thing i could come up with was that God put it there....i don't think it really summed it up for him though. I'll have to start thinking up some good replies to his questions.

Our baby is 4 1/2 inches long this week and is "practicing" breathing and swallowing.

Too many shots!

I'm already tired of two shots a day, and it hasn't even been a week! I'm going back to the doc tomarrow to see if i can get on a 1 shot a day med. I keep reminding myself that these shots are supposed to be a good thing so me or the baby doesn't die suddenly, but they still hurt.

Here's the scoop

I went to my doctor yesterday because i had so many more questions about this blood clotting disorder and WHY i needed to be put on blood thinners.

He said in making his decision he looked at 4 major factors, and the results were that 3 out of 4 were not good. The first factor was good, and that was that i have never had any problems. The other three were not so good. Pregnancy was one of them and it increases the risk of blood clots. My family history was another factor, and with my mom, aunt and grandma all with a history of blood clots that wasn't good either. The final factor he considered was the genetic make up of my blood. I have two deformed genes that together can cause blood clotting. The tricky thing about the genetic factor is that we NEVER know when it will happen, it could cause a clot now, or when I'm 60, or never, we just don't know.

So after considering these 4 factors he told me that it wasn't up to him to gamble with my life and it was his recommendation that i take a very low dose of blood thinner. The doctor also went over a scenario of what would happen if i took my chances and chose not to take this medication, and then got a blood clot. It would be VERY bad for me and baby. I would have to be put on high levels of blood thinners, that would not be safe for baby, delivery, breast feeding, or surgery. Not only would we have to deal with this, but my job at walmart would not be safe(working with all the knives) and they would make me take a leave of absence, until a position opened up for me. After hearing his horror stories of what blood clots can do to me and the baby, Billy and i needed very little convincing.

The blood thinner I'm on is Heparin and i only take 1cc a day, split into two shots. The only blood thinner that comes in pill form is Coumadin and it is toxic to the baby. The good news about heparin is that the molecular weight of it is so big that it cannot pass through the placenta, so baby doesn't get any of it. The major side affect for me is low blood platelet counts which the doctor is going to monitor. I will take Heparin for the rest of my pregnancy and 6weeks postpartum. Compared to other blood thinners, Heparin is safe to give birth with, breastfeed with, and safe to be on if i need surgery.

I did my homework mama, I love you and thank you for being concerned :)

I'm a big pin cushin!

Well turns out I have the same blood clotting issues as my mama, so i now have to be on blood thinners the rest of my pregnancy. The good news is that we found this early, and i won't have blood clots. The bad news is i have to give myself two shots a day :( ugh.

We got our crib!

Well Billy's wonderful parents got us our crib last night, and we just love it! It's one of those cribs that can be converted into 4 different beds and the changing table turns into a night stand. Were going to get alot of use out of this one! It only took Billy 3hrs to put it together, with minimal swearing........ i was very proud.
I'm still doing great, some headaches, backaches, and a few sleepless nights, but for the most part i feel good.

12 Weeks

Wow, I'm already 1/3 of the way done. So far it's been really easy, I hope it stays that way. Other than being picky about food, and some leg cramps, i feel really good. I got a few bumps and bruises this week when i fell on the ice and hit my head on someones car....ouch! Billy has been amazing, he handles my mood swings like and old pro, and has started washing the dishes for me (because food grosses me out) his new saying is "Babe, your sooo weepy" I can't help it if silly little things make me want to cry. Thank God for good husbands!!

This last week we went in for our check up with the doc, and he did another ultrasound so we could see the baby's new arms and legs. It was so cool :) the baby was dancing, and twirling and flipping around so fast.... our little tiny dancer!

The doc ordered some more blood work to be done to see if i inherited the same genes that causes my mother's blood clotting. If this first test comes back neg. then we don't have anything to worry about, so we'll see. I'm glad our doctor is so pro-active about this, because I really don't want to find out I have a problem with blood clotting when I'm on the delivery table.

Well when we went in for the ultrasound the baby was 2 1/2 inches from head to bottom. This week the baby is making its digestive system, white blood cells, and the pituitary gland has started producing hormones.

11 Weeks

Well were at 11 weeks and time is just flying by. For the most part I still feel great. I'm a little more nauseous, and i figured out the hard way that the baby DOES NOT like eggs. Food in general is turning me off, I'm hungry but nothing looks good, or smells right. Speaking of smells, onions, bell peppers, anything sun-dried tomato, and any kind of meat is totally gross!

Our baby is doing alot this week. Now, according to "the book" our baby is 2 inches, is forming individual fingers and toes, hair follicles are forming, the nose, sinuses, tounge and mouth are formed and if its a girl, the ovaries are developing....cool :)
