I took Nathan into the doctor's for his one year check up today. Poor kid, he's had a rough couple of days. We took him to get his hair cut yesterday and he cried so hard, then he was awake most of the night because he was cutting new teeth, and then today he had to get three shots. Needless to say I have had a grumpy boy on my hands today. We spent alot of time playing in the sunshine today. Playing outside always makes him feel so much better. We will definitely have to find a good snowsuit for him this winter, he loves it outside!
Nathan is now 20lbs and 30.9 inches long, which puts him in the 10th percentile of other kids his age. But he wears a size 5 shoe, so I have no doubt that at some point my little man will grow into his feet.
Nathan is right on track with his gross motor skills, but is lagging a little with his fine motor skills. The doctor suggested that we sit down together and color with crayons and a coloring book to help him refine those skills. Also, he needs to be able to hold onto a sippy cup and take a drink by himself, and he needs to be using eating utensils more. Nathan also needs to work on identifying body parts. I told the doctor that he knows where his penis is, but she seemed to think that wasn't enough. He has trouble finding his nose, but he sure knows where is penis is!
Tonight we were working on the names of all the parts of my face; this is Mama's nose, this is Mama's eyes, this is Mama's lips, and every time I pointed to my lips Nathan gave me the sweetest kiss! I love him!!!

Playing in the yard
I just love this picture!
Sweet little baby face
Mmmm delicious....Baby kisses
Daddy taught Nathan how to smell the flowers, he makes this cute little face and inhales, it's the cutest thing ever, and I finally got a picture it.
Pig out in the park
Nathan is not quite sure what to think of the big pizza guy.
cute baby!
Mama and Nanny were resting in the grass when we got tackled by Nathan.
Nathan just loves the outdoors
Daddy and baby, I love this picture, they even walk the same.
Nanny looks so pretty.
Nanny's birthday was the beginning of September, so Billy and I took her to pig out in the park for her birthday. We enjoyed all the tasty food, music and sunshine. It was a great day! We then took Nanny home to visit with us for a couple of days. We sure enjoyed her company, and she really liked getting out in the country.
Nathan feeding himself
Nathan has shown an interest in using utensils while he eats, here are some pictures of his first attempt. I thought that yogurt would be easiest for him to start with since you don't need much skill to get it on the spoon. He had no problems getting it on the spoon, or in his hair, or on the wall, or any other place within a 3ft radius of where he was sitting. I keep reminding myself that teaching him how to feed himself is going to be messy, but oh boy what a mess!
Beach Day
House warming party
On August 14th we had our house warming party. We had a nice potluck dinner with family and friends, and had a nice afternoon visiting with everyone. All the kids played down in the creek and got soaking wet, while the grown up's got to relax. It was a fun day for everyone. Grandma Jackie and Papa Keith also stayed with us for a few days. It was really nice to finally have a guest room for family to stay with us. We had such a nice visit with Grandma and Papa, too bad I forgot to take pictures.
Nathan's first haircut
On August 10th we took Nathan to get his first haircut. He did not like it! The poor baby cried the whole time. Other than crying, Nathan did really well. I was worried that he would move around alot, and the combination of a squirmy baby and sharp scissors scares me. He just buried his head in his hands and cried. Thankfully it didn't take long and he was happy again soon after.
Swim Lessons
At the beginning of August, I signed Nathan up for mommy and me swim lessons. Here we are on our first day all ready to go in our swim suits and lathered in sunblock. As it turned out, Nathan HATED swim lessons! We ended up only going two day's and he cried the whole time. I thought he would really have fun in the water since he loves his bath so much, but since he wasn't having fun we didn't finish out the week of lessons. I think we will try again next year.
